About Me 

Your vote for me is your vote for a Mayor with professionalism, experience, progressive vision, balance and integrity; a Mayor who has a proven track record and the capability and commitment to serve Marlborough through open and strong leadership.

I grew up here, went away for study and work, and returned 30 years ago as a lawyer with Wisheart, Macnab and Partners. I’ve lived and worked in Marlborough ever since.

 

My family moved to Marlborough when I was a boy, and my first school here was Bohally. I’m passionate about rugby, and played in the Marlborough Boys’ College First XV, captaining it for a number of great matches.
 

I left home to study law, then worked overseas and back in New Zealand in corporate and finance law, but my heart was always back home in Marlborough. So it didn’t take me much convincing when Merv Wisheart asked me to move back and join his firm.

The years since have flown by, but I’m honoured to have met, worked with and represented many Marlburians across the region through my work. In that time I met my partner Anne, who leads a team of specialist teachers supporting success for all in Marlborough and Kaikoura school communities.

I’m active throughout the community and passionate about our achievements on sports fields, on stage, in board rooms and community halls, and as a region.

 

I spend a lot of time in the Marlborough Sounds, in the pool at Stadium 2000, and also on the tennis court; I have celebrated my 50-year membership at the Marlborough Tennis Club which I joined as a child and I’m constantly amazed at the talented young sportspeople our region is nurturing.

As Mayor for the past term and Councillor for the two terms prior, I have always made decisions based on fact – not on emotion or politicking. And I have learned plenty about what makes this region tick.
